Bidding opens for casinos in Southern Tier of New York

The New York State Gaming Commission announced Monday, March 23, 2015 that it would allow new applications for casino licenses. Developers looking to build a casino have until July 6th to submit their casino proposals that would allow an eastern Southern Tier casino to be built near the Pennsylvania border.

New York has approved up to four casino licenses in the upstate regions. The state locations board recommended three licenses for Tyre, Schenectady, and Thompson.

Jeff Gural owns Tioga Downs in Nichols, New York, part of the the Southern Tier. He is hoping to win a license in order to turn his harness race track/video lottery location into a full casino.
