Philippine casino investor and casino cruise ship operator Genting Hong Kong Ltd (HKG:0678) recently announced the appointment of Tom Wolber (pictured) as Crystal Cruises new President and Chief Executive Officer effective Sept. 15.

According to the press release, the Los Angeles, California-headquartered company welcomes the travel industry veteran’s more than 30 years of experience in general management, business development, new-build construction and operations during its most significant expansion since it was founded in 1988.

Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of Genting Hong Kong and Crystal Cruises, said via the press release, “Tom’s proven leadership skills will be invaluable to Crystal as the line takes delivery of four river ships in 2017 and 2018 as well as the first of the ‘Endeavor Class’ expedition yachts in 2019.” The chairman went on to say, “His leadership will be key to the finalization of specifications and design for the new ‘Exclusive Class’ oceangoing vessels. Tom has our full confidence and we look forward to working closely with him to ensuring Crystal remains unmatched in the luxury travel segment.”

Wolber also commented on his appointment, saying: “Crystal has developed a venerable reputation across the travel industry and my first responsibility will be continuing to deliver the world-class service and itineraries Crystal is renowned for.” Wolber thanked Chairman Tan Sri Lim and said he looked “forward to spearheading some of the most innovative new-builds and experiences the cruise and hospitality industry has ever seen in the years ahead.”

Wolber has served in various executive roles with the Walt Disney Company for nearly 30 years. He joins Crystal Cruises from Disney where for 10 of his 28 years there, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Disney Cruise Line. Wolber has also served as President and CEO of Euro Disney, Paris and has held various senior executive positions Disney’s report operations and theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Wolber replaces Edie Rodriquez, who in Oct. 2013 joined the luxury cruise line as President and COO. In May 2015, following Genting Hong Kong’s acquisition of Crystal Cruises, Rodriquez was promoted to President and CEO. Since acquiring Crystal in 2015, she has reportedly helped Genting expand the cruise line and successfully launch three new brands: Crystal Air, Crystal Yachts and Crystal River Cruises.
