Travellers International Hotel Group, led by Chairman Kevin Tan, is set to expand its operations with two major integrated resort projects outside of Manila. These developments, located in Boracay and Cebu, represent the company’s first ventures beyond the capital, marking a significant step in its growth strategy.
During a keynote address at the IAG Academy Summit at Newport, Tan, who is also the President and CEO of Alliance Global Group (AGI), revealed details of the upcoming projects. The developments include the highly anticipated Mactan World Resorts in Cebu and Boracay World Resorts, both of which are expected to elevate the Philippines’ tourism landscape.
Major Investment in Cebu’s Mactan World Resorts
One of the most exciting announcements was the confirmation of the Mactan World Resorts project in Cebu. Initially reported to involve a US$300 million investment, Tan clarified that the project will see an even larger financial commitment, with the total investment estimated at closer to US$400 million.
Set to open by 2026, Mactan World Resorts will be part of AGI’s 30-hectare Mactan Newtown township. This integrated resort will feature a hotel, casino, and other high-end amenities. It is expected to create over 5,000 new jobs for the residents of Lapu-Lapu City and the surrounding areas, boosting the local economy and positioning Cebu as a key player in the region’s gaming and hospitality industry.
“Once completed, this gaming and leisure hub is expected to supply more than 5,000 new jobs to the residents of Lapu Lapu City and nearby cities in Cebu,” Tan stated during his keynote speech.
Boracay World Resorts to Blend Nature and Luxury
The second major project announced is Boracay World Resorts, which will be located within AGI’s sprawling 150-hectare Boracay township. The area already boasts impressive facilities, including a private one-kilometer beach, an 18-hole golf course, and close to 2,000 hotel room keys. The new development will further enhance the island’s tourism appeal by introducing a luxurious integrated resort with standalone villas and hotel suites.
Tan emphasized that Boracay World Resorts will offer a unique blend of Boracay’s natural beauty and the sophistication of a modern resort. “We are elevating the tourism industry by seamlessly combining the natural beauty of Boracay with the excitement and sophistication of a modern integrated resort,” he explained.
In an earlier interview with Inside Asian Gaming, Tan highlighted Boracay as a top priority for AGI’s expansion efforts. He noted the strategic advantage of AGI’s landholdings in popular tourist destinations, such as Boracay, which provide ample opportunity for growth and development.
“We’re very excited about Boracay … that’s the next resort that we will probably be opening. We are already in the planning stages of that. It’s not going to be a massive property, but I think it’s just right for the market there,” Tan said.
Expanding Beyond Manila’s Saturated Market
Tan also expressed the company’s intent to focus on expansion opportunities outside of Metro Manila, where the market has become increasingly competitive. He indicated that areas like Clark have also seen heightened competition, but that untapped regions present new opportunities for growth.
He further noted that the Philippines, known for its stunning tourist destinations, has been waiting for investments like these integrated resorts. Tan believes that such developments, which bring world-class amenities and infrastructure, will not only attract tourists but also contribute significantly to local economies.
