NOVOMATIC AG has taken a major step toward expanding its presence in Europe by signing an agreement to acquire the French casino group Vikings Casinos SAS. The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, aligns with NOVOMATIC’s long-term international growth strategy.

Vikings Casinos, headquartered in Falaise, operates a network of eleven land-based casinos across France, including key locations such as the Côte d’Azur. The acquisition will significantly enhance NOVOMATIC’s footprint in one of the largest gaming markets in Europe. Stefan Krenn, Executive Board Member of NOVOMATIC AG, commented, “With the acquisition of Vikings Casinos, we are consistently pursuing our international growth strategy and strengthening our position as a leading provider in the European gaming market. With this step, we have successfully laid the foundation for further sustainable growth in France.”

The planned acquisition is part of NOVOMATIC’s broader strategy to expand its gaming portfolio and leverage growth opportunities in regulated markets. The company, founded in 1980 by Professor Johann F. Graf, currently operates in around 50 countries and supplies gaming equipment and services to over 120 countries worldwide.

Opportunities for Growth and Development

Luc Le Borgne, CEO of Vikings Casinos SAS, expressed optimism about the transition, stating, “The acquisition by NOVOMATIC opens up new opportunities for growth and further development. We are confident that the integration into such an experienced and successful company as NOVOMATIC will help us to further strengthen our position on the French market. This change will enable us to work even more efficiently and benefit from the resources and expertise of the new owner.”

Vikings Casinos is recognized as one of the leading casino chains in France, offering a mix of traditional table games and electronic gaming options. The company has built a strong reputation in the French market, and the acquisition by NOVOMATIC is expected to further enhance its operations.

NOVOMATIC’s Global Expansion Strategy

This move follows NOVOMATIC’s recent strategic initiatives, including the sale of its Admiral Group operations in Austria to the German-based Tipico Group. The sale aligns with NOVOMATIC’s focus on expanding its presence in international markets and furthering its global growth objectives.

NOVOMATIC, known for its extensive gaming technology portfolio, operates gaming terminals and video lottery terminals (VLTs) across approximately 2,200 venues worldwide. The company employs more than 25,300 people globally and continues to prioritize expansion into new and existing markets.

The acquisition of Vikings Casinos underscores NOVOMATIC’s commitment to strengthening its market leadership in Europe and leveraging new opportunities for sustainable growth. Pending regulatory approvals, the acquisition is set to position NOVOMATIC as a key player in the French casino industry, further solidifying its role as a leading gaming technology provider in Europe.
