The Pascua Yaqui Tribe has revealed the name of its upcoming development at 1055 West Grant Road, confirming the project as an expansion of the well-known Casino Del Sol brand. The new property will carry the official title Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taa’am location in Arizona, distinguishing it from the flagship resort on Valencia Road. Scheduled for completion in early 2027, the casino is expected to become both a cultural landmark and a major contributor to Southern Arizona’s economy.

Honoring Language and Heritage

“Vahi Taa’am” translates to “Three Suns” in Yoeme, the language of the Pascua Yaqui people. While not a formal part of the property’s legal name, the descriptor carries cultural and symbolic meaning. Pronounced vah-hee tah-ahm, the term will serve as a marker for the Grant Road site while reinforcing tribal identity.

According to KVOA, Amanda Lomayesva, interim CEO of Casino Del Sol, explained the importance of the name. “Choosing Vahi Taa’am reflects the culture, language and vision of the Tribe. It symbolizes light and speaks to a bright future for our team members, guests and the greater Tucson community.”

By incorporating the Yoeme language into its branding, the Tribe aligns the project with a growing movement in indigenous tourism that integrates heritage into hospitality ventures. This approach strengthens the property’s cultural significance while positioning it as a modern entertainment destination.

The Grant Road development will significantly expand the Tribe’s economic role in Tucson. Officials confirmed the new site will create around 500 jobs, ranging from hospitality and entertainment to operations and management. In addition to direct employment, the project is expected to generate business for local suppliers and service providers, further boosting the regional economy.

Its location near Interstate 10 also offers a strategic advantage, ensuring convenient access for both residents and travelers. This accessibility supports the broader goal of making Tucson a more competitive destination for tourismconventions, and leisure activities.

A Vision for 2027 and Beyond

The new Casino Del Sol location is designed as more than a gaming venue. Tribal leaders have described it as a hub for hospitality, entertainment, and cultural pride. The facility will complement the Valencia Road flagship by offering additional capacity and diversity in amenities, creating another anchor for Tucson’s evolving entertainment landscape.

The Tribe has also issued clear communication guidelines, emphasizing that “Vahi Taa’am” is to be used strictly as a descriptor alongside the Casino Del Sol name. This approach avoids confusion between the two locations while maintaining consistency in media references and marketing.
