Chicken Ranch Casino Resort will bring its original gaming property back into operation on Sunday, March 1, marking the return of the facility known as the “OG.” The reopening follows a temporary closure that began on January 5 to allow for renovations across the property. Doors are scheduled to open at 10 a.m.
The OG’s return comes months after the debut of the $325 million Chicken Ranch Casino, Resort and Conference Center, which replaced the earlier casino in November 2024. While the new resort introduced a larger-scale operation, the tribe confirmed that the original building would not be retired. Instead, it would undergo upgrades and reopen as a second gaming venue on the property.
Owned and operated by the Chicken Ranch Rancheria Me-Wuk Indians of California, the casino resort now plans to operate both properties side by side.
Renovations Bring Layout Changes and More Games
Management closed the OG in early January to complete what it described as a full-property refresh. The work included reconfiguring the gaming floor to improve traffic flow and accommodate more machines. When the doors reopen, guests will see an updated layout along with additional gaming options.
The property will introduce 16 electronic table games in the month following the reopening. The updated floor plan also aims to create smoother movement throughout the building.
The OG will maintain its status as an 18-and-over gaming venue. As in its earlier years, the facility will permit smoking and will not offer alcohol service. The bingo hall will continue operating on its regular schedule.
Joseph Mathiesen-Powell, Tribal Chairman, addressed the reopening in a statement. “The reopening of the OG is an exciting milestone,” he said according to MyMotherLode.com. “This refresh allows us to honor where we started while continuing to grow and improve the experience for our Guests.”
Dining Options Return to the Original Building
Alongside expanded gaming, two former dining establishments will resume service inside the OG.
The Roost Coffee Shop will open at the same time as the gaming floor. The venue plans to serve coffee and quick meals for guests who want to eat before playing or take a short break from the machines.
Ranch House Restaurant will also reopen with a revised menu centered on familiar comfort food. The streamlined offerings will include items such as hamburgers and fries, allowing patrons to dine without stepping away from gaming for long periods.
These additions restore amenities that had been part of the original casino before it closed for renovations.
From Bingo Hall to Dual Casino Operation
The OG traces its roots to 1985, when the property began as a bingo hall in Jamestown, California. Over time, the operation expanded. Slot machines arrived in 2000, and the facility later grew into a 30,000-square-foot casino featuring 600 slot machines, nine table games, and a 900-seat bingo hall.
Following the opening of the new resort in July 2024, the original building ceased operations in November and later entered renovation. The tribe subsequently confirmed plans to convert it into a second gaming venue known as The OG Casino.
With the March 1 reopening, Chicken Ranch Casino Resort will operate both the new resort complex and the refreshed OG simultaneously. Management states that the dual setup will offer guests different gaming environments within the same property.
The reopening provides clarity about the tribe’s long-term intentions for the original structure. Rather than closing permanently after the launch of the new resort, the building now returns with updated features while retaining several characteristics from its earlier years, including its smoking policy and bingo schedule.
