Boyd Gaming Corporation has agreed to sell Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Bally’s Corporation, marking a significant ownership change in the city’s downtown gaming market. The two properties sit next to each other along the Red River, meaning that once the transaction closes, both will operate under Bally’s control.
Strategic Expansion For Bally’s In Louisiana
The agreement, announced on February 26, 2026, remains subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals. The companies expect the deal to close in the third quarter of 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Sam’s Town Shreveport includes a 29,000-square-foot casino floor featuring approximately 750 slot machines and 14 table games. The property also offers a 514-room hotel, multiple restaurants, a live entertainment venue and convention and meeting facilities. It is located adjacent to Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel.
Bally’s leadership framed the acquisition as a move to deepen its footprint in a market where it already operates. Soo Kim, Executive Chairman of Bally’s Corporation, stated in the company’s press release: “As an existing operator in Shreveport, we know this market well and understand what makes it special – from its loyal customer base to its important role in the region’s broader gaming and entertainment landscape. The acquisition of Sam’s Town Shreveport reflects our confidence in the community and our long-term commitment to growing our presence here. We see meaningful opportunities to reinvest in the market and further strengthen Shreveport’s position as a premier destination for gaming and entertainment. We look forward to sharing more about our broader vision and plans for the property and the market in the near future.”
Once completed, the transaction will consolidate two prominent downtown casinos under a single owner. The combined footprint strengthens Bally’s position in the local gaming sector and expands its domestic portfolio, which already spans 19 casinos across 11 U.S. states and one property in Newcastle, UK. Bally’s operations also include approximately 17,700 slot machines, 630 table games and 3,950 hotel rooms across its properties.
The company has additional development projects underway, including a planned resort in Chicago, rights to develop land on the former Tropicana Las Vegas site and a license to build a casino in The Bronx, New York. Bally’s also operates Bally Bet, a sports betting and iGaming platform licensed in 14 North American jurisdictions.
Boyd Refines Its Property Portfolio
For Boyd Gaming, the sale aligns with a broader effort to streamline its portfolio. Keith Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, commented: “The sale of our Sam’s Town Shreveport property is consistent with our continued focus on refining our operating model and our nationwide property portfolio. Sam’s Town Shreveport has been a part of our Company since 2004, and we appreciate all of the contributions of its team members, past and present, in providing great service to our guests throughout the last two decades.”
Founded in 1975, Boyd Gaming operates 27 gaming entertainment properties across 11 states. The company also manages a tribal casino in northern California and runs Boyd Interactive, a business focused on online casino gaming for both B2B and B2C markets. In recent months, Boyd has pursued other strategic moves, including the acquisition of Resorts Digital and the sale of its 5 percent stake in Flutter Entertainment plc for $1.75 billion.
Sam’s Town Shreveport joined Boyd’s portfolio in 2004. The divestiture reduces Boyd’s exposure in the Louisiana market while allowing Bally’s to expand in a region it already serves.
