Soft2Bet has announced plans to enter Alberta’s future regulated iGaming market, subject to obtaining the required approvals. The company intends to build on its existing Canadian presence by extending its localized approach, drawing from the experience gained with its Ontario-focused brand, ToonieBet.
The move comes as Alberta prepares to establish a competitive online gaming environment under a new regulatory structure. Authorities in the province are working toward implementing a framework that would allow multiple operators to participate, positioning Alberta as a key market within Canada’s broader iGaming sector.
Soft2Bet stated that its strategy aligns with its 2026 expansion plans, which include entering new regulated jurisdictions and strengthening its footprint in North America.
Alberta’s Market Potential Attracts Operators
Industry projections indicate that Alberta could become one of the largest regulated iGaming markets in the region. Estimates suggest that annual revenue may surpass $700 million once the market reaches maturity. This outlook has drawn interest from a range of operators planning to establish a presence when the framework becomes active.
Soft2Bet joins a growing group of companies considering entry into the province. Other operators evaluating the opportunity include DraftKings, theScore, NorthStar Bets, PointsBet Canada, BetMGM, Betway, and Bet99.
Several economic and demographic factors contribute to Alberta’s appeal. The province has the youngest adult population in Canada and ranks highest in GDP per capita. It has also experienced strong population growth, driven by both interprovincial migration and international immigration.
Statistics indicate that Alberta’s population exceeded five million in late 2025, with a median age of 38.1 years. Government forecasts suggest continued expansion, with projections pointing to an additional two million residents over the next 27 years.
In parallel with population growth, provincial authorities have outlined expected financial returns from the regulated iGaming sector. Estimates indicate that the Alberta iGaming Corporation could generate around $75 million in revenue for the province during the 2026–27 fiscal year, rising to approximately $109 million by 2028–29.
Regulatory Framework And Market Structure
Alberta’s regulatory model will involve two key bodies. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) will serve as the regulator, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) will oversee operations and manage the market.
The framework is being developed under the iGaming Alberta Act, which sets out the structure for licensing, compliance, and oversight. Operators seeking entry must meet technical and regulatory requirements established by provincial authorities.
Soft2Bet indicated that it is closely monitoring these developments and preparing its systems to comply with local standards. The company emphasized that meeting regulatory expectations remains a priority as it considers market entry.
Soft2Bet plans to apply its localized operating model to the Alberta market. The company has already implemented this approach in Ontario through ToonieBet, which launched toward the end of 2024.
Its strategy focuses on adapting products to regional preferences, regulatory requirements, and cultural factors. This includes tailoring user experiences to local audiences and ensuring compliance with jurisdiction-specific rules.
“Innovation is paramount at Soft2Bet, and our goal is to develop exciting products that meet our customers where they are most comfortable,” said David Yatom Hay, General Counsel, Soft2Bet, in the company’s press release. “As we evaluate our entry into Alberta, pending regulatory approval, we are committed to delivering localized, engaging experiences that reflect the unique preferences and culture of each market.”
The company also plans to expand language support across its platforms as part of its regional approach. By offering services aligned with local expectations, Soft2Bet aims to strengthen its position in regulated markets.
With Alberta moving toward a competitive iGaming environment, operators are preparing to enter a market shaped by both regulatory requirements and economic potential. Soft2Bet’s planned expansion reflects broader industry interest in the province as it advances toward launching its regulated online gaming sector.
