After more than a decade running the Mohegan Sun At Pocono Downs in northeast Pennsylvania, Mike Bean has reportedly decided to stand down as the casino’s president and general manager.

According to a report from The Scranton Times-Tribune, 51-year-ol Bean recently sent an announcement to employees of the Wilkes-Barre property stating that he intends to vacate his post at the end of the month.

“I’m moving on from Mohegan Sun Pocono,” Bean told the newspaper. “I just have an opportunity that I definitely want to take advantage of.”

The Mohegan Sun At Pocono Downs, which is operated by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, began slot operations in November of 2006 before changes in legislation saw it introduce table games from July of 2010.

Bean began his career at the Pennsylvania property in 2005 as its vice-president of administration and was promoted to assistant general manager five years later. He took on his current role in October of 2012 and has helped oversee the casino’s transformation into one of the state’s largest offering more than 2,300 slots and 90 table games as well as harness racing, retail outlets, restaurants, bars and a comedy club.

“I’ve been here for more than a decade so it’s been a big part of my life,” said Connecticut-native Bean. “When I arrived, basically it was a racetrack with a plan.”

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which also operates the Mohegan Sun and Resorts Casino Hotel, added a $50 million and 238-room hotel along with a 20,000 sq ft convention center to the Mohegan Sun At Pocono Downs in November of 2013. According to figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, 2015 saw the property report a 1% increase year-on-year in combined table and slot revenues to over $265 million while it has paid out total taxes of around $1 billion since 2005.
