According to local business and other reports, Rivers Casino is getting ready to build a $35 million hotel on the Ohio River property in Pittsburgh, Pa. As planned, the hotel will have 214 rooms, according to a report on the post-gazette website.
The news outlet reports that the casino is going ahead with the addition after clearing a hurdle to vacate a non-existent street on the property. The street apparently appeared on maps but was never built. Construction of the hotel should begin in the spring and be completed in 12-14 months.
More information on the connected seven-story hotel should become available after the developers have consulted with the city.
According to the report, which featured an image from Strada, designers of Rivers Casino and Riverfront Park, the casino will complement existing structures and the park in general. A restaurant, bar, and spa are said to be additional amenities to the casino hotel. According to filings noted by the news site, an expanded sidewalk lined with trees, an event lawn on the river side of the hotel, and public spaces are planned.
The total site area of Rivers Casino and Riverfront Park is 13 acres and is connected to the 25-mile Three Rivers Heritage Trail System. When it opened in 2009 the development created open public spaces along with gaming, entertainment, dining, and retail venues reclaiming land where derelict steel mills and rail yards once operated.
According to the report, the casino has estimated that the new project will result in over $29 million in added gaming tax revenues, nearly $5 million hotel and sales tax revenues for the county, and create over 100 permanent jobs on a 5-year outlook.
Overnight visitors to the casino currently lodge with several Pittsburgh hotel partners in close proximity to the casino, with many offering complimentary shuttle service as well as free play coupons to qualifying guests.
