Las Vegas based Sands Corp. was one of five vying to build a casino in Wyandotte County in northeast Kansas but on Tuesday July 22 it said it will no longer be pursuing a gambling license in the state. Among the reasons given are the changing laws in Missouri for the $500 loss cap per two hour period, which would give gamblers less reason to travel into Kansas to continue gambling. Also cited are the increased costs of borrowing money, with the proposed casino costing about 750 million dollars. The four left in are Kansas Entertainment, Pinnacle Kansas, Golden Heartland and Legends Sun. All five managed to get their management contracts approved by the Kansas Lottery Commission. They are now going through a hearing process with the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission who will have the final say in who gets the license.
