In Macau, the occupancy rate at hotels and guesthouses was up 7.6 percent year-on-year for April, with an average rate of 88.9 percent and more than 1.1 million guests. Included in the figure is an occupancy rate of 91.9 percent in the autonomous region’s four and five-star hotels, an increase of 2.1 percent from the same time last year. A 2.8 percent growth was seen in the overall occupancy rate for April, according to a Wednesday report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), according to a May 31, 2018 report from Inside Asian Gaming.

From January through April this year, local guesthouses and hotels have seen more than 4.5 million guests, which is an increase of 8.8 percent year-on-year while the 88.9 percent occupancy rate was up 4.7 percent year-on-year.

Contributing to the increase, the number of guestrooms grew by 6 percent from the same time last year to 39,000 while hotel rooms with five-star designation rose by 7.9 percent to 24,000, which comprises 61.2 percent of the total.

The news outlet also reports that DSEC also communicated that in Macau in April, the number of visitors who took package tours swelled by 12.9 percent year-on-year and 6.2 percent month-on-month.

Other significant increases were seen in package tour visitors from Taiwan, the Republic of Korea, and Mainland China, which saw year-on-year surges of 57.5 percent, 27.8 percent and 12.2 percent, respectively.

Year-on-year package tour visitors from January through April this year increased 20.1 percent and totaled 2.8 million, according to the report.
