Spain’s Q1 online gross gaming revenue reportedly saw a 20 percent year-on-year increase to €193.25m ($216.16m) courtesy of sports betting and casino verticals.
Gross gaming revenue for sports betting saw a 26 percent swell year-on-year and from the previous quarter 0.63 percent, totaling €100.8m for the period. According to the Gambling Insider report, the rise was mainly attributed to an increase in live betting, which saw an upswing of 11 percent from the previous quarter. Conventional bets, however, dropped 11 percent.
Casino sector:
Meanwhile, gross gaming revenue of €67.1m for the casino sector represents 35 percent of Spain‘s iGaming industry for the first quarter. Additionally, casino gross gaming revenue for the period saw a 2o percent year-on-year increase and a 3.7 percent rise from the quarter before, according to Monday’s report.
Thirty-one of the western European country’s 53 licensed operators reportedly had sports betting operations while 37 run bingo games. And poker, which is available with nine operators, saw its gross gaming revenue fall 1.4 percent year-on-year to €21.2m. Also experiencing a year-on-year decline, bingo, which is reportedly only available with four operators in Spain, fell to €3.2m, an 8.6 percent decrease.
Marketing spend:
Witnessing a 22 percent year-on-year swell, the quarter’s marketing spend was €92.25m. Of the total spend, advertising took a €47.8m while €29.3 percent was used for promotions, €10.2m on affiliates and sponsorship saw a €4.8m take.
According to the report, the monthly average for account users who are active saw a 13 percent increase to 909,513. Also seeing a rise was the average monthly sign-up rate which increased to 273,924, a 2 percent swell.
Gambling landscape:
Madrid is the largest gambling city in Spain and has six gambling facilities, with approximately 88 tables games, 350 gaming, slot, and video poker machines. The country’s largest casino is Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones, which also happens to be located in Spain’s central capital and features approximately 38 table games, 25 poker tables, 200 gaming and video poker machines.
