On Tuesday 3rd June 2015, it was reported that the Rivers Casino officials presented a plan to create a $50 million hotel in Pittsburgh, to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Not only was the plan discussed but also the renewal of the casinos operating license.

The hearing was three hours long and was also attended by different group members and organizations that has benefited from the gambling venue. In front of the Allegheny County Courthouse, River Casino workers were also rallying together to call for a union.

The intention is to add a 200 or more roomed hotel on the east side of the casino and the matter has already been under discussion with city officials, according to David Patent, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Rush Street Gaming LLC, who is the company that runs River’s Casino.

It has also been said that the build should start around the first quarter of 2016. The plan is to have the casino and the hotel connected so that they share one entrance with valets.

Once the hotel is completed it could generate another 105 jobs and close to $30 million would be generated from gaming tax and $5 million in county hotel and sales taxes, during the first 5 years of the hotel being in operation.

The hotel addition has been in consideration by River Casino officials since 2009, when the doors first opened. The plan for a hotel was looked into more closely last year after analyzing a loss of business to regio al competition.
