After revealing its intention to purchase the Apex Casino near Edmonton, Alberta, in early-July, Century Casinos Incorporated has announced that it has now completed the $21.2 million deal to give it a fourth casino in the western Canadian province.
Colorado Springs-based Century Casinos Incorporated already ran the Century Casino And Hotel Edmonton and the Century Casino Calgary along with North Calgary’s Century Downs Racetrack And Casino and also has extensive land-based and cruise ship operations in the United States, Canada, Argentina, Poland and the Caribbean.
Century Casinos Incorporated explained that its new 34,500 sq ft casino in the Edmonton suburb of St Albert opened its doors in 1994 before undergoing a “major renovation” some 16 years later. Now re-branded as the Century Casino St Albert, the venue features 382 slots and eleven live gaming tables alongside a restaurant, a bar, a banquet facility, a 517-stall parking lot and a lounge complete with a live entertainments stage.
“It’s a well-run operation and it’s been solid in that market area since 1994,” Geoff Smith, Managing Director for the Century Casino And Hotel Edmonton, told the St Albert Gazette newspaper in July. “We believe we’ll be able to get some good synergies of operations and marketing efforts between our two Edmonton-area locations.”
Century Casino Incorporated declared that the Century Casino St Albert is being operated “pursuant to licenses issued by the Alberta Gaming And Liquor Commission” in September while all of the remaining closing conditions had been met before October 1.
The Colorado firm stated that St Albert is the second-largest city in the Edmonton region with a population of around 60,000 while Century Casino St Albert is located off Anthony Henday Drive, which serves as its larger neighbor’s ring road, approximately eleven miles from the Century Casino And Hotel Edmonton.
