In New York, the developers behind the Suffolk OTB Islandia casino in the village of Islandia have announced that the opening of the facility has been delayed until early next year due to construction-related issues including the discovery of wiring problems.
According to a report from the Associated Press news service citing the local Newsday newspaper, the Long Island enterprise had been scheduled to open inside the Islandia Marriott Long Island hotel this month but developers Delaware North Companies and Suffolk County Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation have now revealed that the facility will not begin operations until at least February.
Newsday reportedly cited Chuck Kilroy, President and General Manager for Buffalo-based Delaware North Companies, as stating that the delay follows demolition and construction crews discovering wiring problems at the site along with other unspecified repair issues.
The Associated Press reported that the Suffolk OTB Islandia enterprise is to initially feature 250 video slots before its portfolio is subsequently expanded to the full complement of 1,000 machines by the summer.
