Japan comes one step closer to the introduction of Integrated Resort projects with the news that the Macau-based operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and Monte Carlo’s Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) have inked a deal. The two groups agreed on a formal strategic partnership to operate and develop Integrated Resort projects in the Asia-Pacific region, and in Japan in particular.
Recently, the Japanese government approved a bill Promoting Implementation of Specified Integrated Resort Areas, which is due to pave the way to Integrated Resorts in the country. Both GEG and SBM recognize the potential in the Japanese casino market, and the importance of teaming up, given both their expertise in the industry. GEG stands behind many luxury premier resorts throughout Asia, while the Monaco based SBM is one of the world’s most recognized luxury hospitality brand.
The Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of SBM, Jean Luc Biamonti pointed out the similarities in corporate philosophy between the two groups. These include supporting the companies’ employees, the local community and the environment and “maintaining the utmost quality in world-class resort design and service standards.”
Biamonti said that GEG’s success in Asia should prove to be a valuable enhancement to SBM’s portfolio. He added that the recent passage of the Bill Promoting Implementation of Specified Integrated Resort Areas in Japan prompted the strategic partnership, and that SBM looked forward to collaborative efforts to design, develop and operate an Integrated Resort in Japan.
Also commenting on the partnership was the chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group, Dr. Lui Che Woo who said: “We are honored to be cooperating as a strategic partner with SBM, one of the most iconic, luxury, hospitality brands in the world. Since the opening of our flagship property Galaxy Macau in 2011, we have quickly gained a reputation for developing and operating some of the most spectacular Integrated Resorts in the world and together with SBM we look forward to creating even more premium hospitality and entertainment experiences for our customers to enjoy in the years ahead.”
