If it seems like the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles popped up overnight it’s simply because it began as a Pinnacle Entertainment casino called Sugarcane Bay in 2006, and then Pinnacle returned their license to the state. Creative Casinos LLC, started the process to build a $400-million casino named Mojito Pointe and then that company was purchased by Ameristar. Next, Pinnacle Entertainment purchased Ameristar and folded them into their company before selling the work in progress to Landry’s Inc. in July of 2013. Houston hospitality businessman and owner of Landry’s, Tilman J. Fertitta, announced that it would become Golden Nugget Lake Charles. The casino finally opened on December 7, 2014.

Fertitta now owns and operates five Golden Nugget casinos including; Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Golden Nugget Laughlin, Golden Nugget Biloxi, and the new Golden Nugget Lake Charles.

The Lake Charles property is on the point, adjacent to Pinnacle’s  L’Auberge Casino, and features a casino with 1600 slots and video poker machines, 72 tables games, and a 6 table live action poker room. The hotel offers 738 smoke-free rooms. Across the property visitors will find a golf course, outdoor pool, full service spa, a private beach and marina, tennis facilities, and an arcade. Dining and entertainment is covered by 8 restaurants, 5 bars, and an 18,000 square foot Grand Ballroom.
