New York’s online sports betting market saw a notable dip in total wagers for June 2025, marking the lowest monthly handle since August of the previous year. According to the New York State Gaming Commission (pdf), handle for June totaled $1.65 billion. While that represents a 25.4% drop compared to the record-breaking $2.21 billion wagered in May, it still stands 12% higher than the amount recorded in June 2024.
Despite this downturn in overall betting volume, online gross gaming revenue (GGR) held firm, exceeding $206.5 million. That total reflects a 65.2% year-on-year increase, and although it’s down 17% from May’s peak, it is still the third-highest GGR figure reported in 2025 so far. This translated to a statewide hold rate of 12.52%.
FanDuel Maintains Edge Over Rivals
FanDuel secured its top position among operators again in June, generating $86.3 million in GGR from $563.7 million in wagers—resulting in a 15.31% hold rate. Although DraftKings processed a higher volume of bets at $607 million, its GGR came in lower at $69.8 million, reflecting an 11.5% hold.
Fanatics ranked third, reporting $17.3 million in revenue on a $151.7 million handle and an 11.4% hold. Caesars followed closely, with $13.8 million earned from $152.3 million in bets, yielding a 9.06% hold. BetMGM collected $11.9 million from a $116.7 million handle, translating to a 10.2% win rate.
Among smaller operators, ESPN Bet saw $4 million in GGR from $48.2 million wagered (8.3% hold), while Rush Street Interactive earned $3.7 million from $40.4 million in bets (9.16%). Bally Bet reported $791,201 from $9.9 million (7.95% hold), and Resorts World Bet remained at the bottom of the market with $229,357 in GGR on $2.8 million (8.33% hold).
At New York’s retail casinos, June brought a slight year-over-year decline in gross gaming revenue. The state’s casinos generated $55.1 million, down 2.2% from June 2024, marking the third-lowest monthly GGR in 2025 behind January and February.
Slot machine activity remained relatively steady, with $526.7 million in slot credits played. Slot GGR edged up by $700,000 to reach $41.8 million. However, table games took a hit, with GGR down 16.8% to $11.8 million, and total wagers declining 9.1% to $69.4 million. Poker added $862,000 to the overall figure, while retail sports betting brought in $677,400 from $3.8 million wagered.
Retail casino tax contributions reached $13.9 million, helping generate $41.3 million in net revenue for the state—a 3% monthly decline.
Market outlook and industry developments:
The sharp contrast between May’s record-setting performance and June’s seasonal drop aligns with expected summer slowdowns. May’s online GGR of $248.9 million remains the highest monthly total since New York legalized mobile betting in 2022.
Operators are closely monitoring how future regulatory shifts may shape the industry in the latter half of the year. Legislators are still debating proposals, including a ban on sweepstakes casinos and potential approvals for a new land-based resort. Discussions around changing deposit limits may also influence future betting behavior.
In the meantime, FanDuel continues to expand its New York footprint, having officially opened a new office in Manhattan’s Flatiron District on June 23, underscoring the operator’s long-standing roots in the Empire State.
As the third quarter begins, analysts remain focused on margin sustainability, especially in a market that appears resilient even during traditionally slower periods.
