Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc. (TRLEI), the operator behind the renowned Okada Manila resort in the Philippines, has revealed a significant leadership change, with current President and Chief Operating Officer Byron Yip set to step down in mid-September 2025. This announcement marks the conclusion of Yip’s impactful seven-year tenure, during which he was instrumental in shaping the resort into a premier gaming and entertainment destination in Asia.
Yip’s Departure and Continued Role in Transition
Yip will officially conclude his tenure on September 15, 2025, after overseeing daily operations during the transition period. Despite stepping down, Yip will continue to lend his expertise and ensure a smooth handover to the new leadership team, providing support throughout September. Yip’s decision to leave comes as he embarks on the next chapter of his career, following a notable legacy at Okada Manila.
In a statement published by Manila Bulletin, citing the company’s official release, Tomohiro Okada, Representative Director and President of Universal Entertainment Corporation (UEC), the parent company of TRLEI, praised Yip’s leadership, highlighting his role in elevating Okada Manila to new heights. “Byron Yip’s leadership has been instrumental in establishing Okada Manila as a leading destination in the region,” Okada said, acknowledging Yip’s significant contributions, including the resort’s consistent achievement of the prestigious Forbes 5-Star rating for six consecutive years.
The transition also comes at a time when the Philippine casino industry faces challenges, particularly with declining VIP play and a drop in visitation from key markets like South Korea and China.
Nobuki Sato, who currently serves as Senior Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Universal Entertainment Corp., will take over Yip’s role as President and COO of Okada Manila. Sato, who has been a part of the TRLEI Board of Directors since March 2023, brings over two decades of extensive experience in hospitality, finance, and strategic operations. His deep expertise in operational management and financial strategy is expected to guide Okada Manila into its next phase of growth.
Tomohiro Okada expressed confidence in Sato’s ability to lead the company, saying, “We are confident that Nobuki Sato’s proven expertise in operational and financial management will guide Okada Manila into its next phase of strategic growth and innovation.” The company’s leadership transition reflects its continued commitment to operational excellence and long-term value creation.
Okada Manila, under Sato’s leadership, is expected to focus on further growth and innovation in a competitive market. The resort, known for its impressive facilities, including the largest Forbes 5-star Integrated Resort in the Philippines, boasts a vast gaming floor and a variety of entertainment options. Okada Manila continues to be a key player in the region’s hospitality and casino industries.
A Strong Legacy and Future Directions for Okada Manila
Byron Yip’s contributions to Okada Manila have been central to its success, particularly in the areas of expansion and strategic development. Under his leadership, Okada Manila has achieved remarkable milestones, including the consistent Forbes 5-Star rating and the introduction of innovative attractions like The Fountain, a grand water show that is a signature feature of the resort.
Despite facing economic challenges, including a notable decline in gross gaming revenues for the first quarter of 2025, the company remains focused on its long-term growth strategy. Yip’s leadership in executing key expansion initiatives helped Okada Manila maintain its reputation as a leading integrated resort.
