Only a few minutes after the New York Gaming Facility Location Board Meeting began their meeting, they began announcing the successful candidates who will be allowed to apply the NYS Gaming Commission for casino licenses in Upstate New York. It was first announced that none of the proposals for Orange County would be recommended, narrowing the field to three contenders rather than the four authorized by voters last year.
Montreign Resort Casino at Adelaar in Thompson received the recommendation for Sullivan County Catskills/Hudson Valley Region 90 miles from New York City. The 83,600 square foot casino resort will cost $630 million to build. Expected gross gaming revenues for 2019 are expected to be $301 million with $103 million in tax revenue.
Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady is recommended for the Capital regions (Albany-Saratoga areas). 50,000 square foot casino with poker.
Lago Resort & Casino in Tyre, Seneca County was chosen to be recommended for the Southern Tier (Finger lakes) area. The property will cost about $425 million to build. Mitigation of traffic, especially in consideration of the Amish community, will be addressed.
Recommended conditions for Montreign and Rivers included that the casinos must be developed as part of their respective resort proposals.
