Tbilisi is preparing for a major addition to its tourism and hospitality sector as Planet Hollywood Resorts International moves forward with plans for a large-scale integrated resort in the Georgian capital. The project marks the brand’s first entry into the country and introduces a new type of destination development to the local market.
The resort stems from a licensing agreement involving Orbi Group, Block Group, and Iconic Entertainment. Once completed, the development will combine accommodation, gaming, retail, and entertainment facilities within a single complex, a format not previously seen in Georgia.
Large-Scale Resort Project Takes Shape
Developers have outlined plans for a two-tower complex with more than 1,200 rooms in total. The project will include a 500-room Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino alongside a 600-room Radisson Blu luxury hotel. Construction is already underway at a central location in Tbilisi.
The resort will incorporate a 50,000-square-foot casino and a 4,000-seat venue designed for concerts, shows, and other live events. Retail space will also form a significant component, with more than 70,000 square feet allocated to Harvey Nichols outlets. Visitors will also have access to a range of restaurants, nightlife venues, and leisure facilities.
Project leaders say the development is intended to reshape the city’s hospitality offering by combining multiple experiences in one destination. “This represents a defining step in the continued global evolution of the Planet Hollywood brand,” said Robert Earl, Founder of Planet Hollywood, in a company press release. “Tbilisi is a city with extraordinary character and momentum. Together with our partners, we are creating a destination that brings together entertainment, hospitality and immersive experiences in a way that is both ambitious and authentic to the market.”
Economic Impact and Tourism Growth
Developers expect the project to have a notable effect on the local economy. Estimates indicate the resort will generate more than 2,000 permanent jobs across hospitality, entertainment, and retail operations. Increased visitor numbers are also expected to support surrounding businesses, including restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions.
Executives involved in the project described it as a turning point for the city’s international profile. Tornike Janashvili, CEO of Block Group, said, “This is a pivotal moment for Tbilisi. We are introducing a true integrated resort-one that elevates the city’s global positioning, attracts international visitation at scale and sets a new standard for hospitality, entertainment and economic impact in the region.”
The NCAA-level scale of investment reflects a broader strategy by Planet Hollywood to expand into markets with growing tourism demand. The company has indicated that further details regarding the timeline for opening, as well as partnerships and programming, will be shared at a later stage.
Additional voices involved in the project highlighted its long-term implications. Irakli Kvergelidze, CEO of Orbi Group, said: “We are proud to be bringing Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino to Tbilisi and to deliver a destination that will help shape the future of tourism and hospitality in Georgia.”
Blending Heritage With Modern Development
Tbilisi’s appeal as a travel destination continues to grow, supported by its mix of historical landmarks and contemporary culture. The city’s Old Town, known for its narrow streets, historic buildings, and bathhouses, attracts visitors interested in its past, while newer districts offer modern dining, shopping, and arts experiences.
Developers see the Planet Hollywood resort as a project that aligns with this combination of tradition and modernity. Mark Advent, founder of the New York New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and Partner of Iconic Entertainment, emphasized the significance of the location and collaboration, stating: “I’ve waited decades for the right opportunity to work with Robert Earl- one of the world’s great impresarios; his creation of Planet Hollywood is part of a truly storied legacy. We are in the fun business, and he has brought extraordinary enjoyment to guests around the world by bringing to life one of pop culture’s most iconic entertainment brands. On top of this, Tbilisi is ready for a project of this scale- this will be a defining destination!”
The project builds on the success of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and reflects the company’s broader effort to bring its entertainment-focused hospitality model to new international locations.
As construction progresses, industry observers expect the development to strengthen Georgia’s position as a destination for both leisure and business travel. By combining accommodation, gaming, retail, and entertainment, the Tbilisi resort aims to attract visitors from across the region and beyond, contributing to the country’s expanding tourism sector.
