After announcing plans for a new casino deal back in February, the Twin River Management Group has finally purchased the Newport Grand Slots facility. The group plans on moving their gambling license for Newport to the new Tiverton facility once it is completed.
A new casino has been proposed by Twin River which would be placed on 45 acres of woodlands located near the Fall River line. The property is based just off William S. Canning Boulevard. The gambling license of Newport will be used to operate the new gaming facility in Tiverton, with a small casino in the plans. The facility would house more than 1,000 slot machines and have around 24 table games. The new facility will be larger than Newport.
The Newport Grand will remain in operation until the new gaming facility can be built, with the 160 employees remaining employed. The officials of the Twin River group have been meeting with residents of Tiverton to discuss their plans and by fall, will have design plan meetings to give the residents an opportunity to weigh in on how the casino should be designed.
Before a casino can be created in Tiverton, Twin River will need approval by voters throughout the state. A vote is planned during the general election which is set for November 2016.
