Boyd Gaming has launched Cadence Crossing in Henderson, Nevada, marking the company’s first new casino development in nearly two decades and introducing a property tailored to a rapidly expanding residential area.
New Property Reflects Changing Local Demand
The opening follows the closure of Joker’s Wild, a long-running venue that originally opened in 1990 as the Cattle Baron Casino before being rebranded in 1993. The former site is set for demolition, with the cleared land expected to support future additions at the new property.
Cadence Crossing sits along Boulder Highway, positioned to serve residents of the nearby Cadence master-planned community, which has recently ranked among the fastest-growing in the United States. The casino also operates within close range of other established local venues, including Sam’s Town and Sunset Station.
The development reflects a shift in the surrounding neighborhood, where population growth has created demand for updated entertainment options. The property spans approximately 24,000 square feet and features 450 slot machines, sports betting kiosks, dining outlets, and social spaces designed for local visitors.
Executives linked the project directly to the area’s expansion. “That was a compelling opportunity to step up our game and offer a new gaming entertainment experience here,” said David Strow, according to CDC Gaming.
He also noted how the local audience has changed over time. “This is a facility that will appeal to the people of Cadence who weren’t here a few years ago,” Strow said. “Jokers Wild did very well for us for about 30 years, but thousands of residents weren’t here five years ago and we’re offering them a modern product.”
The casino includes a central bar with 22 seats, a lounge designed for groups and couples, and two food venues: Tin Lizard Bar & Grill, offering a mix of comfort food and modern dishes, and Tacos Los Gauchos, a 24-hour quick-service option.
Focus on Value and Community Continuity
Cadence Crossing operates as a locals-focused casino, with pricing strategies aimed at everyday visitors. Promotions include low-cost food and drink options, such as discounted beers, cocktails, and meal specials.
“The local casino model is built on value,” Strow said. “That’s appealing to people and draws them in.”
The company retained employees from Joker’s Wild and expanded staffing levels for the new venue, maintaining continuity for both workers and returning customers. Many early visitors recognized familiar staff members, reinforcing the connection between the old and new properties.
City officials also acknowledged the investment and development impact. “They are beautifying this stretch of the community with his incredible new building,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. “I want to thank them for the investment they have made and the belief they have in this area. And they did it in a one-year time period, which is almost unheard of.”
The project moved from groundbreaking in April 2025 to completion ahead of schedule, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held prior to opening. “When you walk through these doors, you will be greeted by a modern and stylish casino experience – worthy of the Cadence community and the city of Henderson,” said Steve Schutte.
Expansion Plans Tied to Area Growth
Although smaller than some of Boyd Gaming’s other properties, Cadence Crossing was designed with expansion in mind. Plans include the potential addition of a hotel and expanded gaming options if demand supports further development.
There are currently no traditional table games on the casino floor, with electronic versions of blackjack, roulette, and craps available instead. Management indicated that additional amenities could be introduced later as the property evolves.
Construction of the casino took less than a year, supported by a broader capital allocation that also covered renovations at other properties. The surrounding corridor continues to see infrastructure improvements and residential growth, factors expected to influence the casino’s long-term performance.
Executives also expect continued interest from local players following the opening. “People in Las Vegas love to see a new casino, and so I expect that to be the case,” Strow said. “We will see a lot of people arrive today and hopefully into the weekend.”
The site’s future development remains closely tied to the expansion of the Cadence community, with available land positioned to support additional phases. Company leadership has indicated that the current opening represents the initial stage of a broader plan for the location.
