Update: Whitesands Casino Apia is not expected to open until early 2017.
The Whitesands Casino in Mulifanua held a soft opening on October 4th with the hotel anticipated to open today. However, it was recently announced that Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort will not open until January 15, 2015. Adjacent accommodations are available at Aggie Grey’s Lagoon Beach Resort & Spa, for those who wish to enjoy the first ever Samoan casino experience. Whitesand Casino Mulifanua and another slightly larger casino to open in downtown Apia in May are headed up by the Grey Investment Group, heirs of the Aggie Grey legacy.
The casino resorts have similar names and that has lead to some confusion, each of them now coming under the Starwoods/Sheraton banner while still owned by Grey Investment Group has not helped much but we’ll put them in perspective here for you.
Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows was founded by Aggie Grey in 1933. It is among the most famous hotels in the South Pacific, and a popular choice among the elite. This facility is located on the Main Beach Road in Apia. The hotel and casino will open on May 1, 2015. This will be the larger of the two Whitesands Casinos with 24 tables and 220 slot machines. The official name of the Casino will be Whitesands Casino Samoa and the official name of the resort will be Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows.
About 34km away, next to the airport in Faleolo is Whitesands Casino Mulifanua, and Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort. The casino opened in October and the resort should open on January 15th. The casino features 100 slot machines and 10 gaming tables.
Nearly adjacent to Whitesands Casino Mulifanua is Aggie Greys Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa. This resort is open and accepting bookings. There is no plan to create a casino on this particular property, as it is adjacent and convenient to Whitesands Mulifanua.
