The six casinos in Maryland saw their aggregated gross gaming revenues for August increase by 37.1% year-on-year to reach just over $37.1 million although the tally dropped by some 15.7% when figures from the recently-opened MGM National Harbor development were excluded.

According to official figures from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the 31-day month saw the five older casinos in the eastern state report aggregated gross gaming revenues of $84.6 million, which was considerably less than the $100.3 million recorded for August of 2016, although MGM National Harbor brought in $52.8 million from its collection of 3,173 slots and 165 table games.

Owned by Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International, the $1.4 billion MGM National Harbor opened in Prince George’s County near Washington, DC, on December 8 and August reportedly represented the fifth time had it recorded monthly gross gaming revenues north of $50 million. The official figures show that the venue had average daily takings of $281.82 from each of its slots for the month while the figure for its 126 banked gaming tables reached $5,934.89 with its 39 non-banked offerings reporting $1,520.91.

The figures show that the state’s second largest casino, the Live! Casino and Hotel near the city of Baltimore, also had a bad month as its gross gaming revenues diminished by 19.9% year-on-year to $44.7 million. Owned by The Cordish Companies, the Anne Arundel County facility revealed $241.28 in average daily takings for each of its 3,891 slots in August while the figure for its 138 banked gaming tables stood at $3,330.98 with its 52 non-banked tables averaging $849.39.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission figures were similarly pessimistic for the nearby Horseshoe Baltimore as this facility reported a 21.3% drop year-on-year in August gross gaming revenues to $21.8 million with its 2,202 slots each raking up an average daily tally of $187.29. Run by a consortium that includes Jack Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment Corporation, this casino’s 153 banked gaming tables averaged $1,808.41 per day for the month while the figure for its 25 non-banked offerings came in at $571.84.

However, the monthly figures were not all bad news in Maryland as the Hollywood Casino near the small town of Perryville reportedly saw its August gross gaming revenues improve by 5.4% year-on-year to $6.2 million as each its 822 slots garnered average daily takings of $212.91. The Cecil County casino operated by Gaming and Leisure Properties Incorporated moreover saw its 13 banked gaming tables record average daily takings for the 31-day period of $1,794.58 with its eight non-banked offerings chalking up a figure of $410.71.

Similarly, the Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County reportedly saw its monthly tally for August swell by 6.1% year-on-year to $4.8 million as each of its 665 slots generated average daily takings of $191.83. Located just over eight miles from the city of Cumberland, the facility additionally offers 17 banked gaming tables and the figures show that each of these averaged daily revenues for the month of $1,648.53.

Finally, the Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County reportedly saw its August gross gaming revenues swell by 11.9% year-on-year to $6.9 million as each of its 800 slots recorded average daily takings of $279.82.
