MGM Springfield is inviting job seekers, who are interested in being trained for various table game jobs at the new $960 million MGM Resorts International property, to attend a series of information sessions and Massachusetts Casino Career Training Institute (MCCTI) registration dates in January and February.

Mass Live reports that the Quaboag Region Workforce Training and Community College Center located at 79 Main St in Ware will host the first session which is scheduled for Friday.

According to a Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) news release, area residents looking to work as professional card dealers or croupiers are welcome to attend one of the several enrollment/registration events listed below to sign up for training classes in Springfield at the MCCTI Gaming School located at 95 State Street in a MGM-owned building. According to the news release, classes are set to begin on Feb. 26.

The training school is a collaboration between MGM, STCC and Holyoke Community College and according to Mass Live, students who successfully complete two courses are assured a tryout with MGM.

Fees for the training courses range from upwards of $199 to as much as $599 for four week and 10-week courses for positions such as mini-baccarat and craps respectively. According to the news release, students must possess good English and math skills and be experienced in customer service. Basic skills training is reportedly available to those who are lacking in those areas.

The goal of the school is for two cohorts of students to run through a 15-20-week program prior to the expected September opening of the MGM Springfield.

According to Mass Live, a rough breakdown of the 3,000 permanent jobs promised to be created by MGM Springfield includes the hiring of a minimum of 1,000 individuals to work casino floor positions such as dealers, slot machine techs, pit managers etc., 115 hotel workers and 800 food, beverage and culinary workers.

The Downtown Springfield, MA property also reportedly expects to fill 500 general administrative jobs, 55 for maintenance and engineering and 80 to fill valet parking, bus greeting and similar positions, according to the news agency.
