Over 1,000 individuals associated with the casino workers’ union and other hospitality union groups in Las Vegas were outside the Palms Casino last night to picket, demanding managers of the Station Casinos bargain with their employees. Members of the Culinary Union wore their signature red shirts and chanted out loud while holding signs that said ‘No contract. No peace.’

Issues with Station Casinos:

Culinary Union secretary-treasurer, Geoconda Argüello-Kline, has stated that the owner of the Palms Casino, Station Casinos, are being disrespectful of their employees by refusing to bargain and negotiate with the union.

Red Rock Resorts (parent company of Station Casinos) senior vice president, Michael Britt, has stated that the company has the right to challenge a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that determined the company failed and refused to bargain in good faith.

Union Efforts:

Several of the Station Casinos properties in Nevada are trying to organize union status. The Fiesta Rancho Hotel and Casino is the latest in a string of venues to unionize over the past few years. The election came just days after over 80% of the employees at the Sunset Station Hotel and casino voted to join the Culinary Workers Union.

Just a few weeks ago, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that Station Casinos had refused to recognize or bargain with the Culinary Workers Union in an unlawful manner regarding a contract for those working at the Palms Casino.

Station Casinos parent company, Red Rock Resorts Incorporated, is responsible for 19 venues in or near the city of Las Vegas. The firm has been involved in several labor disputes involving employees that have resulted in picketing as well as the threat of strike.
