In a significant development for California’s gaming and hospitality industry, Station Casinos, a prominent Las Vegas-based company, has partnered with the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians to launch a groundbreaking new casino and resort. The ceremonial event took place on Saturday, Sept 7th on the tribe’s federal trust land, located along California State Highway 99 just north of Madera at 17770 Golden State Boulevard.
The project, formally named the North Fork Mono Casino & Resort, has been in the planning stages since the early 2000s, reflecting years of persistent effort and collaboration. “Today’s groundbreaking culminates over 20 years of careful and respectful collaboration between our sovereign nation and governmental partners at all levels,” stated North Fork Rancheria Tribal Chairman Fred Beihn. He expressed gratitude towards tribal leaders of the past and regional leaders who supported the tribe’s vision and cause.
The site gained eligibility for gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in 2012, following approval from the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and concurrence by then-Governor Jerry Brown. Further solidifying its path, the Tribe received authorization in 2019 to conduct Class III Gaming on the land, marking a pivotal endorsement for the project.
Project Details and Future Plans
The groundbreaking event attracted hundreds of tribal citizens, community members, and dignitaries, all eager to witness the start of a project that promises significant economic and cultural benefits, according to KLAS 8 News Now. The resort will be wholly owned by the Tribe and managed by an affiliate of Station Casinos, ensuring a blend of local heritage and expert management.
The construction phase has already commenced, setting the stage for what is poised to become a major destination in the region. Upon completion, the casino and resort will offer round-the-clock entertainment and service, featuring 2,000 slot machines, 40 table games, two full-service restaurants, and six quick-serve dining options. The complex will also boast 3,000 parking spaces and complimentary valet parking, designed to cater to both local and visiting patrons.
A Hub of Entertainment and Hospitality
As the project progresses, the North Fork Mono Casino & Resort is set to become a cornerstone of the local economy, providing high-quality gaming, entertainment, and hospitality experiences. The grand opening date is still to be announced, but anticipation is high for a venue that promises to offer a new level of engagement and enjoyment for guests 21 and older.
This partnership not only signifies a major expansion for Station Casinos outside Nevada but also marks a significant step forward for the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians in realizing a long-held dream of economic and social revitalization through sustainable development.
