Gambling reforms are in the works in Greece, where the country would allow online gambling operators into the market again, a total of eight years after they removed them from operation. The state monopoly OPAP has been the only offering since 2012. With the changes coming by April, the 4th edition of the Prague Gaming Summit will provide an opportunity for operators to hear more about the changes and what is to come in Greece in the future. Attendees should plan to listen in on the panel discussion titled Market Rundown: Ukraine, Poland and Greece to learn more.
Regulation Changes:
New regulations for the country were blocked for many years by the refusal of the region to follow EU laws. The Greek Ministry of Finance finally decided to accept the rules of the commission in December of last year, which led the way for new gambling reforms.
Right now, Greece is in a stand-still period. The new rules will not take effect until April 1st. The country will allow 24 operators who had licensing in 2011 to continue their online gaming operations in the country until March 31st, 2020. At that time, operators will need to reapply for licensing.
Prague Gaming Summit:
During the upcoming Prague Gaming Summit in March, attendees will have the unique ability to hear more about the industry and its upcoming changes for Greece during a special panel discussion. Panagiotis Skyrlas, the Head of Information Security & Compliance-Group DPO at Betano-Stoiximan, will be part of the panel regarding Greece.
Skyrlas has over two decades of experience in several imperative areas of the industry including data privacy, risk management, information security and compliance. He has worked on several licensing projects in several countries aside from Greece including Portugal, Romania and Austria, among others.
