The month of April was a record breaker when it comes to the number of passengers traveling through the Macau International Airport. The Airport issued a statement this week revealing that the passenger throughput within the facility surpassed the 800,000 mark, the most ever during a single month of the airport’s 24 years of operation.

Passenger Boost:

According to the airport company, the passenger throughput for April was 19% higher than the same time frame in 2018. In April, the number of landings and takeoffs for aircraft increased by over 6,400. This is a 21% increase when compared to April 2018 and the most ever for a single month in the history of the company.

According to GGRAsia…

The Macau International Airport Co has plans to expand their facility. Because of the expansion, the company expects their number of airport passengers as well as takeoffs and landings to increase throughout the year.

Solid 2019:

So far this year, the airport has seen solid numbers by way of passengers. From January through the month of April, the airport saw over 3.10 million passengers. When comparing the same four months in 2018, the time frame saw an increase of 17% in passenger numbers. For flight movements, there was an 18% year on year increase with over 24,000 during the four month time frame.

By the end of last month, the airport had taken care of around 1,500 scheduled flights each week during April. These flights were spread out among 28 airlines.

The number of travels to Macau might be significant for the gaming industry of the region. Most gamblers to Macau are tourists and research has shown that tourists who arrive via airplane are more likely to book a hotel stay.
