Australia Cove Limited has just released plans to create a casino and convention center in Mildura, hoping that the Victorian Government will give the go ahead for a second casino gaming license within the state. The developer plans on spending $300 million to create The Mildura, which would be located at the corner of Seventh Street and Langtree Avenue.

Australia Cove Limited believes the government of Victoria might be willing to issue a second license if a public show of support can be garnered. The proposal by the company includes a casino, five star hotel and a convention center. There have been previous attempts to build a second casino in Victoria, all of which have failed. The government currently does not have any plans to issue a second license for casino gaming in the area.

At the launch of the proposal, there were several supporters in attendance. Many local groups in Mildura are behind the project including the airport, Mildura City Heart, Mildura Development Corporation and Mildura Tourism. Bob McIver, the Chief Executive of Australia Cove believes that public support is needed to ensure the project gets off the ground. McIver stated that the starting point will be having the full support of the Mildura community.

The project will consist of 165 guest rooms in the five star hotel, a basement car park with 350 parking places, retail space along with a boutique style casino. McIver believes that developers of the project will be able to convince the State Government to give them a casino license as the company has an understanding of the industry and have been involved personally with similar developments in other areas.

Jenny Grigg, the Chairman of the Mildura Development Corporation, pointed out that the project is exciting and iconic for the region as well as nationally. The project will provide huge potential for the region in regards to economic development as well as jobs and growth. 800 jobs in construction could be made available as well as the same number for ongoing jobs. The convention center is expected to provide a boost to the tourism and small business areas of Mildura while the casino and hotel would provide entertainment as well as jobs for the area.
