The visitor total for Macau during the Chinese New Year (CNY) period rose 7.9% when compared to the same time frame last year. Taking place from February 15th to February 20th, the inclusive total number of arrivals by tourists came in at 826,377, a nice increase from 2017.
The Macao Government Tourism Office provided the latest figures, with the majority of the visitors to Macau during CNY being from mainland China. According to GGRAsia, 73.8% of the arrivals during the time period ranging from the 15th to the 20th amounted to 609,983 from the region. This was an increase of 14.5% for that grouping when compared to last year’s totals.
Peak arrivals for visitors took place on February 18th, which is the third day of the Chinese New Year, which started officially on February 16th. On the 18th, over 185,000 visitors entered Macau. The number of tourists visiting Macau was recorded by the Public Security Police and measured as individuals traveled through checkpoints place around the city.
