A project is in the works that could see the scope of downtown Las Vegas change in a big way. Derek Stevens is a developer who has big plans for the downtown area of Las Vegas, with plans to create a casino along with a 777-guest room hotel. The property would be located within the Fremont Street Experience and the project would start from the ground up. If approved, this would be the first time in many years that a project in the area started from scratch.

The new casino and hotel will be located within a downtown block that was leveled in 2017. The block was formerly home to the Glitter Glutch strip club, Mermaid Casinos and the Las Vegas Club. The properties were removed to make room for the new casino and hotel, which will include a tower rising 459 feet above Fremont Street.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Las Vegas Planning Commission was set to review the project yesterday. Within the plans, it states the casino/hotel will be situated at the block flanked by Fremont Street, Main Street and Ogden Avenue. A pedestrian bridge would be placed over Main Street which would connect it to a parking garage located above ground.

The plans include a casino and hotel that will be 1,224,485 square feet in size. This week the Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the project plans, which encompass a nightclub and massage facility, a rental car service and valet parking.

The developer of the project, Derek Stevens, already owns the Golden Gate and D Las Vegas. Together he and his brother, Greg Stevens, purchased the Las Vegas Club in 2015. The final decision regarding the plans will be made by the Las Vegas City Council, which will likely vote on it next month, according to the news outlet.
