DraftKings has announced this week that their sportsbook located at the del Lago Resort and Casino of New York will start offering services this Friday. The casino will be the third in the state to offer sports betting.
Ribbon Cutting and First Bets:
On Friday at noon, representatives from del Lago as well as DraftKings will be on hand, along with local officials, to take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony. The sportsbook will take its first bets via the representatives and officials at opening.
The facility is 6,000 square feet in size and will open almost four months after the Gaming Commission of New York approved a plan submitted by de Lago to cut back on the number of slot machines and table games at the facility in order to provide space for a sportsbook.
The casino requested to cut the table games to 66 while slots would go down to 1,650. With the reduction, the casino would not lower the number of employees at the facility. The casino stated that once the construction phase of the sportsbook was completed, they would most likely add the games back in.
Guest of Honor:
During the opening, the del Lago will be hosting a special guest of honor, former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb. The professional football player will be at the casino on Friday and take part in the festivities.
McNabb is not only an NFL star but has a history in NY. He attended Syracuse where he played both football and basketball. He will not be able to wager on his alma mater however, as regulations in the state prohibit sports betting on or against the college teams located in the state.
