This Thursday, Gun Lake Casino will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of its Phase 5 $300 million expansion project. The plans include a brand-new 15-story hotel with over 250 guest rooms plus an aquadome that will offer guests three pools to choose from when visiting.
Adding New Options for Guests
The expansion plan was first revealed by the casino operator in April of last year. If the project is completed on time, then guests will have access to the new amenities in March 2025. The goal of the expansion is to transform the property into the entertainment destination of the Midwest.
More details about the new hotel and resort should be shared during the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday. Once the Phase 5 expansion plan is completed, it is expected that new options will bring an additional $650 million to the local economy.
The hotel will add a nice amenity to the casino property. Since Gun Lake opened in 2011, any guest that wanted to stay overnight when visiting the casino had to find accommodations at a secondary location.
Continued Expansion
The Gun Lake Tribe has been steadily working on the casino in Michigan over the past few years. Back in October 2019, the tribe announced a $100 million expansion, one of several having taken place since the casino opened.
The casino was expanded from 76,000 square feet to 228,000, providing more gaming options for guests. The casino floor now has 500 slot games and new table gaming options. There is also a larger area for non-smokers. Three new restaurants were also part of the expansion.
The new expansion project can now begin since the Phase 4 plans are completed. Based on a press release from last year, we expect the hotel to be a four-star property and the aquadome to include three swimming pools. One pool will be for families while another is reserved for the 21 and older crowd. The third pool will be open to VIP guests.
Previous reports revealed that the aquadome will include private cabanas upon reservation along with live music and DJs in the area. It will be interesting to see if any of these plans have changed or if the Gun Lake Tribe is still on track to offer what was announced last year when the plans were revealed to the public.
Either way, the casino will offer even more guests who are visiting, including a hotel, in the not too distant future. The venue will offer more convenient amenities that allow for longer stays for guests from out of town or state.
