After the International Game Technology (IGT) accused the GB Gambling Commission of the failure related to issuing the fourth UK National Lottery license, the High Court decided to dismiss the case.

The fourth license disagreement:

The Commission issued the fourth license to Allwyn in September 2022, and this decision was announced to the public a few months before, in March 2022.

This decision greatly affected Camelot, which was the national lottery operator in the UK for almost three decades.

After the decision was announced, Camelot joined forces with its technology provider, IGT, and they challenged the Commission in a High Court. 

Camelot’s chief executive, Nigel Railton, is positive that the Commission made the wrong decision and decided to make things right for his company, which caused almost 6-months delay in the official issuing of the license, making it official in September.

After a long process, the suspension of the license was finally lifted in June when the authorities made its decision.

In early September, both Camelot and IGT decided to withdraw their appeals. But IGT didn’t want to give up completely – the company decided to continue pursuing the damages claims in Court.

Months took the UK High Court to make the final announcement and notify the audience about the decision about the damages claims. On July 28th, the long process was finally over, and the Court decided to dismiss the claim. The reason for dismissal was that IGT doesn’t have any legal reasons to require the damages claims against the UK Commission.

According to the source, the Commission highlighted that this is the end of all the processes related to the fourth UK National Lottery license.

Carefully chosen licensee:

The Commission said that this is the end of the litigation process related to the fourth license competition, and the Commission has won. IGT will have a chance to appeal against the Commission’s decision. However, the Commission claims that the competition was fair to both parties, and the evaluation was very thoroughly and lawfully conducted, aligning with their statutory obligations.

The Commission is sure that they created a “level playing field” for all competitors that had a chance to get the fourth license during the process.

All steps towards a fair playing field for all applicants for the license are conducted, and the Commission has chosen the applicant who will do the best job when it comes to engaging and protecting the players, along with running the National Lottery with integrity and going towards supporting various good causes and contributing to society.
