The Hotel Ramada of India would like to be able to offer organized poker events at their establishment. To do this, the hotel would have to be given approval since there is a ban in place. Officials of the hotel filed a petition with the Gujarat High Court recently to seek permission in offering poker gaming, stating that the game is one of skill instead of one of gambling.

The petition by the Hotel Ramada is the second one to be filed within the court, with the Indian Poker Association filing the first petition. KN Suresh, the secretary of the IPA, was the individual behind the petition, hoping to see the game of poker declared one of skill. The filing was completed after a game was taking place at the Hotel Ramada’s YMCA club and was stopped by police.

Local media has reported that Justice C. L. Soni has tried to receive a reply from several individuals including the municipal commissioner, the Anandnagar police inspector, state government and city police commissioner after a decision was not made on the request by the hotel to be allowed to host a poker game.
