The 2018 World Series of Poker is in full swing with poker pros and amateurs descending upon Las Vegas, Nevada to take part in the 49th running of the popular poker tournament series. Event #3 of the 2018 series was a $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em SHOOTOUT tournament which saw 363 players competing. In the end, poker pro Joe Cada was able to claim the win, outlasting the field and battling in the heads-up round for almost 200 hands to earn the title. The win signifies the 3rd WSOP bracelet for Cada during his career.
Cada has been quite successful, having been the youngest player to ever win the Main Event, a feat he accomplished back in 2009. According to the WSOP, during his most recent win, Cada faced off against fellow poker pro, Sam Phillips, in heads-up play for Event #3. Phillips doubled up early on, with king-deuce against Cada’s ace-jack to put him in a good position.
Phillips doubled up again soon after, but Cada was not ready to give up and the two were eventually even based on chip stack. In the end, Phillips remained with less than two big blinds and the final hand went down. On the last hand, Phillips went all-in with 8-6 and was called by Cada who held Jack-3. The board ran 7-J-8-J-8, giving Cada the win and his 3rd WSOP gold bracelet.
The 2018 World Series of Poker has only just begun with many more events on the schedule. The series is hosted by the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino and will continue this week with schedule highlights including Event #12, the $1,500 Dealers Choice 6-handed tournament, Event #16 the $10,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em Championship and many more.
