The former site of the Thunder Falls Water Park is currently being looked at as the place for a new casino in Mackinaw City, Michigan. City officials met this week to discuss building the new casino and this piece of land is being looked at as the site of the new gaming facility.
The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians would like to build a casino on their trust property and have proposed a casino development in this area of Mackinaw City. Just last night, officials of the village met with the community to share thoughts and concerns of the gaming proposal.
The tribe would create a Class II or III casino. Class II gaming is bingo, which can include electronic bingo machines that appear to be slots. Class III gaming can include blackjack and other Vegas-style table games.
The plan is to gain approval for the casino and create a 64 unit property by May of next year. An RV park is in the plans for 2017, with expansions to continue from there. The Band has stated that the gaming facility would bring employment opportunities to the area and if the casino is approved for Class III gaming, revenues would be paid to the state and local revenue sharing board. Local businesses can see the potential that a new casino would bring and consider the facility to be a win for everyone.
