According to a Wednesday report from local television broadcaster KOLO-TV, the Las Vegas-headquartered operator is already responsible for the Casino Fandango property in the nearby community of Carson City and first detailed plans in 2007 that were to have seen it add a 64,000 sq ft casino and restaurant complex to the under-construction Sparks retail facility. But this proposition was purportedly later scaled back and then indefinitely delayed owing to the firm’s inability to secure enough outside funding.
The broadcaster reported that Phoenix-based Red Development LLC subsequently went on to complete the 45-unit The Outlets at Legends shopping mall without a casino before later adding the adjacent 100-room Hampton Inn & Suites and Residence Inn by Marriott hotels. This purportedly left Olympia Gaming, which is an entity of local property developer Garry Goett’s The Olympia Companies concern, considering whether to proceed with a project that was moreover due to feature a 23,000 sq ft convention center and a spa as well as a parking garage and a private beach.
However, Olympia Gaming has now reportedly resurrected the stalled Washoe County project in hopes of being able to open its Legends Bay Casino next door to The Outlets at Legends by the summer of next year. The firm’s Chief Operating Officer, DeCourcy Graham, purportedly pronounced that the coming 80,000 sq ft facility is due to sit between the two hotels and the shopping mall and feature a number of restaurants in addition to a casino offering an as yet unspecified number slots and gaming tables.
Graham reportedly told fellow Nevada broadcaster KTVN-TV that he is ‘very excited’ about the prospect of being able to open his firm’s Legends Bay Casino as the first such facility to have been built for the local area ‘from the ground up’ in approximately 26 years. He furthermore purportedly proclaimed that having a casino near to the heart of the Sparks shopping center will ‘be a great opportunity’ and allow his company to create jobs and help revive a flagging regional economy.
