One of four licenses awarded in Upstate New York in December 2015, Resorts World Catskills, previously named Montreign, remains on track to open in early 2018. The casino, which is located in rural Sullivan County, will be the last of the four new gaming venues for the upstate region, with Tioga Downs expanding as well as del Lago and Rivers Casino opening last year.

In New York, where there were already nine racetrack casinos and five tribal casinos, the $1.2 billion Resorts World Catskills will be the last to launch as part of the November 2013 state-approved gambling expansion. The Catskills property has been on schedule for some time now and is reportedly preparing for a March 2018 opening.

During a Gaming Commission meeting on Monday, Acting Executive Director Ron Ochrym stated that the project is still on track to open as planned. According to the Times Union, during the meeting, Ochry, stated that the only remaining construction to be completed for the outside of the casino is the ancillary decoration. Dealer training schools are beginning, and slot machines are being delivered to prepare the gaming floor for guests.

Resorts World Catskills’ 18-story casino will reportedly offer 100,000 square feet of gaming space, 134 gaming tables, 2,150 state-of-the-art slot machines including 3D and 4D games, some with ultra-HD 4K displays; private gaming salons with butler service, a 19-table poker room, 24-hour cafe, bars, restaurants and a celebrity chef. Included in the guest amenities are 332 all-suite luxury rooms, which include seven two-story villas, eight garden suites, 12 penthouse suites, spa and fitness center and two indoor pools.

Back in October, hiring efforts were discussed by Empire Resorts, the parent company of the new casino. As many as 1,500 positions need to be filled and with the launch date approaching, the company will have to get busy filling any openings that remain.
