BLB Investors LLC who is behind the Twin Rivers Casino in Rhode Island is in financial woes and asking the state to help out with a lower required contribution. Right now they contribute 0.61 out of every dollar to Rhode Island, which makes them the third largest source of revenue to the state. However Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods only contribute 25% to Connecticut. Fortunately for the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe this will not effect their plans to build in Massachusetts. Twin Rivers has offered an up front lump payment in return for cutting their contribution in half, but Rhode Island is looking to close a gap of over 400 million in their budget. BLB says the offer is just a starting point for negotiations, but people against the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe’s proposed one billion dollar casino point out this is an important lesson. Not all casinos are a way to save the state’s budget, in fact most times they aren’t even close.
