American casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corporation has reportedly named Robert Goldstein (pictured) to serve as its new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer following the January 11 death of predecessor Sheldon Adelson.
According to a Tuesday report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper, the 65-year-old had been serving as the Las Vegas-headquartered firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer but was placed in temporary control just days before Adelson passed away at the age of 87 following a long battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Prolonged relationship:
The newspaper detailed that Goldstein joined Las Vegas Sands Corporation in 1995 before gaining a seat on its board some 20 years later at the same time as being named to his previous post. He had purportedly earlier served as the casino behemoth’s Global Gaming Operations President and Executive Vice-President after a term working as President and Chief Operating Officer for The Venetian Resort Las Vegas and its 3,000-room The Palazzo hotel.
Future pledge:
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Goldstein reportedly issued a letter to Las Vegas Sands Corporation employees in which described Adelson as a ‘mentor and dear friend’ before promising to uphold his forerunner’s vision for the Nevada-based company.
Reportedly read the letter from Goldstein…
“Since his passing, I have reflected on how best to honor him and the answer became crystal clear. We will move forward with determination and resolve to continue growing this company’s position as the industry leader he made us. Mr Adelson would expect nothing less.”
Suitable succession:
To fill the post now left vacant by Goldstein and the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Patrick Dumont has been appointed to serve as the operator’s latest President and Chief Operating Officer with Randy Hyzak moving up to take over as Chief Financial Officer.
Family connection:
The newspaper explained that 45-year-old Dumont is married to Sivan Ochshorn, who is the daughter of Adelson’s second wife, Miriam Adelson, and has a background in corporate finance. He joined the casino operator’s ranks in 2010 before being named as a director in April of 2017 following spells in various finance and strategy roles.
Comparative novice:
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Hyzak is a relative newcomer at Las Vegas Sands Corporation having only joined in March of 2016 to work as its Senior Vice-President and Chief Accounting Officer. Prior to this and the newspaper detailed that the 50-year-old has been employed by Freescale Semiconductor Limited where he served as Vice-President and Chief Accounting Officer.
Reportedly read a statement from Goldstein…
“Mr Adelson’s leadership guided us to the top of our industry and his legacy lives on through the company’s 50,000 team members and the iconic properties he developed around the world. Our spirits have been dimmer in these few weeks since his passing but the future of the company he founded shines bright. He would expect nothing less than an aggressive pursuit of the work he started and I am determined to lead this company forward in a way that best honors his vision.”
