The Santa Ynez band of Chumash Indians has been sued by Save the Valley, a group of Santa Barbara residents who believe the tribe’s planned casino expansion is not legal. Save the Valley states the land is not a part of a trust. Indian tribes are allowed to use land assigned to them for casinos as long as it is turned into a trust; however, Save the Valley does not believe this proceeding has happened, and that the title for the property has restrictions precluding any commercial endeavor.  The land  in question would include a 12 story hotel expansion with 215 more rooms. Also as part of the expansion is 75,000 square feet of space for gaming, a pool deck, and 584 parking spaces. The complaint was filed with a federal court on April 3rd, according to Courthousenews.com.
