Scientific Games Corporation recently signed a new deal in the state of Kentucky. The company will be providing its lottery retail solutions for instant games in conjunction with the Kentucky Lottery, Kroger grocery stores, and the Blackhawk Network. Players located in Lexington will be able to access scratch games at Kroger stores while shopping for grocery items.
The game provider’s SCiQ InLane is a long-term initiative that will expand to other Kroger stores in the future. Right now, instant games are a $60 billion business in the United States and grocery stores play a large role in ticket sales. Of the $60 billion in sales, around 18.5% come from grocery stores. The company has plans to take the lottery sale solution to additional states in the future including adding more retailers for ticket sales.
Modernizing the Lottery Experience Via Grocery Stores
Scientific Games is committed to modernizing the lottery experience in retail outlets like grocery stores and big box stores. The goal is to drive the maximum proceeds possible so that lottery programs can benefit. The company partnered with Kroger because of its scale in the United States to reach the goal of modernization.
The company is also working with the Blackhawk Network, a top-rated branded payment program to extend its reach, as well as build loyalty, and increase revenue potential. CEO and President of the Kentucky Lottery, Mary Harville, commented on the deal, stating the lottery is excited to be chosen as the first state to test the system.
Integrating with the Retailer’s POS
With SCiQ InLane, the solution integrates within the point-of-sale system of the retailer. The solution is used to sell lottery instant games via technology from the Blackhawk Network. The technology uses automated instant game dispensing within the retail checkout counter and a menu display of available games.
The Scientific Games system will automatically track every unit of instant product that is sold by the retailer, in real-time. In the past, this level of accuracy was not available to retailers. With this option, the retailer has great visibility when it comes to the performance of sales and inventory.
For consumers, SCiQ InLane is a convenient solution. Players can easily go in and out of the grocery store, purchasing lottery tickets with ease. The option is secondary to self-service machines and will become a top choice among patrons who want the most convenient option for purchasing lottery tickets from retailers such as Kroger.
