Melco Crown Entertainment and SJM Holdings, two Macau casino operators, announced April 17, 2015 that they would provide transportation to their Chinese migrant employees. The two companies made this announcement to the Chinese government showing their intention to help employees who commute daily from China to Macau. The casinos will offer shuttle transportation from the Lotus Bridge checkpoint that links Hengqin Island with Cotai.
Operations will start this week for one casino. The other casino will have their shuttle running by May 1, 2015. Macau’s Secretary for Transport, Raimundo do Rosario hopes the other gaming operators in the area will also start to provide transport for their employees. The effort is to reduce traffic congestion and make it more affordable for employees to reach work.
