Gaming machines developer Scientific Games Corporation has reportedly signed a deal with Caesars Entertainment Corporation that will see its innovative Space Invaders slot featuring a skill-based bonus round premiered at the casino giant’s Bally’s Atlantic City and Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City properties.

According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper citing Rich Broome from Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Space Invaders is set appear at the New Jersey venues “this week” before being made available at its properties “in additional jurisdictions” while Scientific Games Corporation’s Susan Cartwright told the newspaper that the game is due to land at venues in Las Vegas over the summer.

The newspaper reported that Scientific Games Corporation is at least the fourth firm over the past seven months to have deployed a skill-based option into a gaming machine in hopes of attracting a younger and more video-savvy generation of players. Last year saw GameCo Incorporated bring its skill-based games to the Tropicana Atlantic City while Gamblit Gaming and Konami Gaming Incorporated have recently premiered similar innovations at casinos in Las Vegas.

“We expect this period of experimentation will continue for the next few years,” Broome told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

For its part, Las Vegas-based Scientific Games Corporation declared that the six-reel and 60-payline Space Invaders is themed on the classic arcade video title of the same name and features an “authentic alien shooter bonus game” that sees players attempt to collect additional credits by shooting down rows of descending aliens utilizing a virtual laser cannon.

Housed in the developer’s Blade s32 cabinet, Space Invaders also features an option that sees players able to bypass the base slot game and proceed directly to the skill-based bonus where they can compete with higher credit win levels.

“Space Invaders is one of the true classic video arcade games and a childhood favorite for many who grew up in the era of video games,” read a statement from Derik Mooberry, Gaming Chief Executive Officer for Scientific Games Corporation. “We are thrilled to bring this iconic game to casino slot gameplay. Our development team worked diligently to ensure that our first skill-based game featured authentic Space Invaders gameplay, complete with its familiar alien symbols and correlative music, and we are certain that players are going to be captivated with this compelling new game.”
