Stanley Ho, the operating director of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM) recently inspected first proposals for the redesign and redevelopment of the site of the Hotel and Casino Lisboa.
The designs were the result of an international architectural design competition they launched in April. Six designers accepted the invitation to submit a design. They are Progetto CMR from Italy, Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man from Hong Kong, Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd from Hong Kong, Leigh & Orange Ltd from Hong Kong, Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd from Hong Kong, and Paul Andreu from France.
Early next month the designers will submit their proposals to a panel made up of SJM senior executives and advisers who are architecture experts. The design brief stated it needed to represent a “timeless iconic development” of the SJM and of Macau, while showcasing its energy and innovative character and maintaining a cost effective construction and efficient design.
The Hotel Lisboa opened in 1970 and has come to represent the macau and its growth of wealth and power. They hope to redesign the Hotel Lisboa into something of which Macau can be proud. The preliminary designs will be on display in the grand ballroom prior to the judging and final decision.
