Today the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted unanimously to renew SugarHouse HSP Gaming, LP’s, Category 2 Casino Operator’s License for the SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia.

It was determined by the seven-member board that the obligations under its previous casino operator’s license had been met by SugarHouse HSP Gaming, LP and had therefore qualified for license renewal for an additional three years, according to PR Newswire.

The decision was based on a process the Board uses that allows the operator as well as the public to provide information that pertains to the renewal decision. Last year, a public input hearing was held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia where SugarHouse personnel submitted exhibits and offered testimony regarding various aspects of the casino’s operation since the last time its license was renewed in October 2011. The public was also able to provide testimony on the casino itself and the impact it has had on the community.

In reaching its decision, local government officials, the Pennsylvania State Police, and community groups, along with the Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement, Gaming Control Board’s Office of Enforcement Counsel, Casino Compliance, and the Office of Compulsive and Problem Gaming contributed evidence and testimony that was reviewed by the Board. Also, today in Harrisburg, a public hearing was held to permit Board members to ask SugarHouse HSP Gaming representatives more questions about any lingering issues before voting on the renewal.

SugarHouse Casino has generated gross revenue of $1.5 billion from slot machine play and table games since it opened in September 2010, which has resulted in more than $600 million in gaming tax revenue for the Commonwealth. There are currently nearly 1,900 slot machines and more than 130 table games in operation at the SugarHouse Casino. The venue employs 1,500 workers.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

In other SugarHouse news, on Monday, May 9, the completed expansion of the casino was officially celebrated with a ribbon cutting and special appreciation ceremony, which included tours of the facility’s new amenities including the SugarHouse Marketplace, which features Philadelphia brands Tacconelli’s Pizzeria, Saxbys Coffee, Geno’s Steaks, Revolution Grill, a brand new local concept, Poker Night in America Poker Room, the multi-purpose Event Center, and Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House.
